The Dual Meet Season Ends…
?And the Championship Season begins. We wrapped the dual meet season this past Saturday with somewhat mixed results. Our Varsity and JV easily beat Iolani but our Girls team suffered their first loss of the season to a very determined Pac-5 team. A disappointing loss for the girls, to be sure, but hopefully it will provide some extra motivation as we move into the part of the season that really counts.
This weekend, we have the ILH Dual Meet Championships, which is a team tournament. Next week is the overall ILH Championships, where both team and individual champions are determined. And of course, the week following (February 20 & 21) is the state tournament.
Overall, the coaches are comfortable (if not satisfied) with how the team is wrestling. We are the front-runners, but our wrestling is still not as sharp and aggressive as it could be. Dual meets don?t count for a significant amount of points in determining the ILH champion and the league championship will be won or lost at the tournament on Feb 14. Seeding for the state tournament is determined almost exclusively by where wrestlers place in their league, which means that if both boys and girls are going to reach their goal, there?s a LOT of work yet to be done.
